You can use the bread machine to make yogurt. In this article I will tell you the best way to prepare yogurt in the bread machine. The tastiest recipes for yogurt just make it in the bread maker.

Homemade yogurt, what do I need?

Making your own yogurt. What do I need? It depends a bit on which yogurt you are going to make and what kind of yogurt you want. Thick yogurt, full-fat yogurt or plain yogurt, anything goes! When it comes to yogurt, there are some ”required fields” that you should always tick off. By default, for your own yogurt you need a few things:

  • Milk
  • Yogurt cultures
  • Clean jar to store the yogurt in
  • Cheesecloth or gelatin to thicken the yogurt
  • Measuring cup

Make yogurt with the best milk

Experience shows that organic milk often gives the best results for tasty yogurt. Also, whole milk is also just possible. You can also just make yogurt with coconut milk. This obviously does not taste like traditional yogurt but more like coconut yogurt, although you still need some additional ingredients for that. You can also make lactose-free yogurt with soy milk.

Making drinking yogurt in bread maker

You can also make plain drinking yogurt in the bread maker. I can tell you that freshly made drinking yogurt is very tasty! You just have to make sure that you use the right ingredients for drinking yogurt. Normally, to make drinking yogurt you can just use a recipe for regular yogurt. With drinking yogurt, however, extra sugar is often added.

Yogurt in breadmaker, some useful tips!

  • Also add a tablespoon of sugar per 100 centiliters of milk. This way you ensure that the bacteria have more food to provide a more complete final product.
  • You can also let the final product drain on a dish towel after preparation, the end result will be thicker in the end.
  • Add one tablespoon of milk powder per 100 centiliters of milk
  • Your refrigerator may still surprise you! You can take another look at what products you have in your fridge that you can add for extra flavor. Sometimes products you haven’t thought of can be a great addition to yogurt. Think syrup, cereal, jam, honey, syrup, and so on.

How many gallons of milk do I need?

How many liters of milk do I need? This depends on how much you want to make. In addition, how much you need also depends on the recipes.

There are several recipes for yogurt, it depends entirely on whether you want to make creamy yogurt, healthy yogurt, Greek yogurt or traditional yogurt. So which recipes you choose depends on your own taste. I highly recommend Greek yogurt with fruit!

Adjust the number of liters of milk in proportion

What you need to keep in mind is that you always follow the recipe properly and that when you want to make more yogurt that you don’t just use more milk products, but also take into account that the rest of the ingredients need to be adjusted in proportion to the recipe.

Warm milk

Make use of warmed milk is another valuable tip I want to give you. If you are going to make your own yogurt then it is best to add warm milk immediately since heated milk is a requirement for yogurt to be prepared properly. It can save you time to heat in advance. Pour in the milk immediately, otherwise the milk will cool down.

Yogurt too thin?

It may happen after making yogurt that the finished product is too thin for the flavor you want to give it. If you don’t like sour yogurt this can be annoying. You don’t have to make a new batch right then. You can just let the yogurt ferment. You need to do this for 24 hours.

You can possibly add a tablespoon of gelatin in advance or drain the yogurt on a cheesecloth after some time. If you decide to drain after making yogurt then the longer you let the yogurt drain, the more it will resemble cream cheese.

Making yogurt with yogurt cultures

Once you have made your own yogurt using yogurt cultures you can make yogurt with this at least 10 more times. Each time after the yogurt is ready, take off around 3 to 4 tablespoons and put them into the next gallon of milk. If you don’t want to make yogurt again right away you can of course store the yogurt cultures. If you store them well, the homemade yogurt will be very tasty even after several days then. It is important to keep the yogurt cultures at a constant temperature.

Making yogurt after storing cultures

Are you going to make yogurt again? Take off some yogurt, let it come to room temperature and then it is important to add it to a liter of fresh milk. The culture decreases in strength when the yogurt takes longer to acidify.

Other options as a yogurt maker?

You can use a bread maker very well as a yogurt maker, but are there other simple methods of making yogurt? Yes there are. In fact, you can also make yogurt just fine in the oven. Just as the bread machine is not just for baking bread, you don’t just prepare hot dishes in the oven.

Heat the oven low enough?

I can tell you, any recipe from the oven for yogurt tastes delicious! You just need to be able to heat the oven low enough. If you can’t heat the oven low enough you can put a pizza stone in the oven to retain heat.
