Start with a kilo of cooking pears

  • One kilo of stewing pears (good for 4 to 6 people)
  • 2 cups of water
  • 2 cups apple cider
  • ⅓ cup of maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • ½ teaspoon whole cloves
  • 1 star anise pod

First, for this dish, peel the stewing pears. You can possibly remove the core, cut into pieces and then cook on a low setting.

  5. Add optional ingredients such as cinnamon sticks or sauce

  • Cinnamon stick or a pinch of cinnamon powder
  • One tablespoon of sugar
  • A tablespoon of cornstarch (during/before cooking)
  • A dash of maple syrup
  • A dash of honey
  • A dash of caramel sauce
  • A small sprinkle of granola
  • Shaved almonds

Here’s an additional tip: You can use the cooking juice of the pears for recipes like stewing pear pudding! 

By this, we mean the juice that remains. You can put this juice in a saucepan on the stove to make a delicious pudding. Add a little berry juice, for example, for an even fruitier flavour!
