A pressure cooker is a pan that you use to cook food under high pressure. This means that you cook them at a temperature higher than 100 degrees Celsius. As a result, your dishes are ready a lot faster. A pressure cooker is also called a pressure cooker. The high pressure is created because you seal the cooker hermetically. In most cases, a slide system is used for this purpose. A pressure cooker offers you numerous advantages. Despite this, the pan cannot be found in most Dutch households. We list the 8 advantages for you.

1. Time saving

For those who use a pressure cooker, this point is definitely number one. With this pan, you only need two-thirds of the time usually allowed for cooking with a regular saucepan. Especially when you are pressed for time, the pressure cooker is a godsend.

2. A saving on energy costs

Contrary to popular belief, a pressure cooker does not consume more energy than an ordinary saucepan. With shorter cooking times, you therefore save a lot on your energy costs. Take potatoes as an example: instead of cooking them in 15 to 20 minutes, with a pressure cooker you do this in just 6 minutes.

3. Preservation of vitamins and minerals

Using a pressure cooker means that oxygen is squeezed out of the pan during the cooking process. As a result, vitamins and minerals are better preserved. Especially considering the current way of farming and the impoverishment of the soil, this is an important advantage. Moreover, it also makes your food a lot tastier.

4. Easy to use

When you compare it to a regular pan, a pressure cooker may look a bit intimidating. Appearances can be deceiving! All you have to do is fill the pan with water, close the lid and use the pressure regulator to indicate the correct setting. The pressure regulator shows how the cooking process is progressing. After boiling, you release the pressure through the pressure regulator. Once all the pressure is gone, you can open the pressure cooker.

5. Minimal maintenance

It is better not to clean the pressure cooker in the dishwasher. A soak of warm water and washing-up liquid is enough to get it clean again. The only part that needs more maintenance is the rubber ring.

6. Suitable for a wide variety of foods

You can use a pressure cooker for a wide variety of foods: potatoes, vegetables, stews, soups and rice, for example. It is also easy to cook several foods together in a pressure cooker.

7. Suitable for all heat sources

Of course, you always check this extra carefully when you possibly buy a pressure cooker, but most of them can be used on all heat sources: gas hobs, electric hobs, induction hobs and ceramic hobs are no problem at all.

8. Available in many different sizes

Are you looking for a pressure cooker? This type of pan is available in different sizes. The smallest variants, suitable for one to two people, have a capacity of around 2.5 litres. The largest pressure cookers have a capacity of more than 10 litres.
